Prospero actually wants Ferdinand and Miranda to fall in love, because Ferdinand is from their homeland, he seemed good guy. He was royal and would make a good partner for Miranda. Prospero's plan is to separate them so that they want each other more, and he is going to make Ferdinand work for her affection.
