Hope this helps! Saponification. It is the hydrolysis of an carboxylic acid ester under basic conditions. Direct products are carboxylic alcohol and acid salt. Sooooo... to convert the salt to the corresponding carboxylic acid, acidic workup of the product mixture is required.
