What causes temperature in the summer to be higher than temperatures in the winter

Hey there! 

Summer and Winter are both different seasons. During the summer, light from the sun directs heats a specific area on the Earth's surface. During the Winter, the Earth faces away from the Sun which causes temperatures to drop.
