When citing a source within your paper, the ending punctuation should?

i'm going to assume what exactly this question is asking, so... the ending punctuation should follow the parenthetical citation, if you have a citation in parentheses. for example:


John told the man, "that was my favorite blanket" (Smith 98).

the punctuation follows the parentheses!!
