Why are there no gas giant planets closest to the sun

I feel like if the gas giants were any closer to the sun, they would probably be ripped apart by solar winds. Also the temperature was lower further out, allowing some gases to solidify, which was an abundance. Pretty soon they would capture light elements and grow to an enormous size. I'm not entirely sure how to answer this question, but I hope this helped!
