How does the cell wall protect a plant cell?

it prevents the cell membrane from breaking. also it gives it its rigid structure

cell wall is made up of cellulose and it is rigid, so it will not burst. But cell membrane is soft and it may burst. So, cell wall prevents the cell membrane from expanding too much and burst.
