 [tex]2x-9=x+1[/tex] is the equation

Your goal is to get "x" by itself

Also note that whatever you do on one side, you do on the other

 [tex]2x-9=x+1[/tex]

Add 9 to each side

[tex]2x=x+10[/tex]

Now -x from each side

[tex]x=10[/tex]

That is your answer
