5(x-3)+7=5x-8
5*x=5x        5*3=15
5x-15+7=5x-8
15+7=22
5x-22=5x-8
5x+5x=10x
10x-22=8
22+8=30
10x=30
---------- (Divide by 10 to get x alone)
    10
x=3
