Well in the south, people started these HUGE plantations. Now you can't exactly pay a guy to kill himself working in the heat, so what do you do? You get slaves! Many of the slaves were killed from heat strokes, whippings, or heart attacks. It was later forbidden by the president, Abraham Lincoln. Soon after his death, slavery got that much worse.
