-3X+4=16

Subtract 4 from each side.

-3x+4-4=16-4

-3x=12

Divide each side by -3.

-3x+4=16
Subtract 4 from 16
-3x=12
x= -4 because 3 times 4 =12 yet in order to make a negative number into a positive number, put two negative numbers together, and it's positive.
